You Move You Die is an independent dark comedy filmed in Auckland, New Zealand. From its very inception the project aimed to be innovative.
In conventional film making many separate shots are cut together to create a scene. In YMYD the film makers used long continuous shots eliminating the need for constant cutting. Highly effective use of Steadicam and intricately rehearsed camera movement allowed the film makers to shoot scenes as long as nine minutes in a single take, while still maintaining enough coverage of dialogue and action to tell a complete story.
An added benefit of this style is far greater immersion for the audience due to the unique perspective. This also allowed the crew to shoot the entire feature in an incredibly short time of just five days. This unique and innovative approach to digital film making is bound to be replicated.
